This season it’s the muted shades that count – colors like coral, honeydew, watermelon, lavender, mint mmmm, sea foam, marigolds are a must whether it be a jean or an accented detail. Add some flavor to your wardrobe with this high demand colour palette that will leave you looking fresh and even a bit hungry! Knowing without doing is like dressing without styling. How are you going to make a full blown impact this season with calming pastels? First figure out what you want the trend to accomplish per your personality. Do you want it to SCREAM or WHISPER… Lets start with making this feminine trend SCREAM 1.) I was never good at geometry but I know color blocking is important this season. Take anything pastel (like this silk watermelon pink blouse from Fifteen Twenty) and incorporate a fluorescent (could be an accessory) to give a sharp contrast. 2.) A pastel printed floral jean with a dose of muddy neutrals will make the jean predominate. The pastel will show off the trend and the floral pattern will cause commotion. Let’s make it WHISPER and tone it down. When I think of pastels the words pretty, subtle and sweet come to my mind, (very girly). You non girly girls, don’t let this ladylike trend badger you. You can have your cake and eat it too. 3.) Take the happy peaches and creams and put them on the back burner on low heat. Have words like muddy, chalky, and subdued be the headline (here’s an example of a DL1961 peony pink jean toned down with a Michael Stars khaki cardigan). Color schemes of muddy browns and khaki hues will throw off the look in a good way - just letting some of the PPP (pretty pale pinks, yes I made that up) trend peak through. I love the softness of the Skinny Charmer jean from Sanctuary in carnation pink. The rugged and dirty brown color’s will make this happy go lucky presentation feel a bit more masculine. 4.) Speaking of cake, #4 is easy. Wear your favorite pair of flare jeans (I love the Ag Belle Jean) and a white tee with a pastel inspired accessory. Done and done. Whether you SCREAM or WHISPER any trend do it with confidence. Wear the pastels don’t let the pastels wear you – chalk can get messy and dirty!
Who’s jumping on the bandwagon? When I asked the girls at WillowSt.com their opinions we were all on board – kind off. Not going too over board we would stick to the citrus colors and the animal prints. The descriptions of these nail polish strips are so savvy – Laced Up, Misbehaved, Booty Camp, Cry Baby, Wild Child and our fav Skinny Jeans! Did someone say skinny jeans? I just purchased my all time go to DL1961 skinny angel jean in white for Spring. Can’t wait to break ‘em in. Back to the important subject at hand (no pun intended). I think you should sass up those nails, be bold and go for it. My only advice would be to keep your bracelets and rings subtle. You don’t want your hands to look too busy and you CERTAINLY don’t want to take away from your ‘effects’. Try coordinating with: Chan Luu – Cypress Bracelet – The nude, apricot color blends in nicely with your natural tones. Gorjana – Stackable Rings – These will work really well because you can wear them all stacked or remove a few to keep it simple. Hair Bands – Also a great invention, a hair band that leaves no dent in you hair. They look super cute as an accessory for your wrist. What’s even better is the price. $1.50, ladies I said one dollar and fifty cents. Mention code ‘nodent’ in the order comment field to receive a FREE hair tie when placing your next online order. Offer expires 4/30/11. *Color chosen at random. *Online ONLY Cheers to patterns, citrus tones and flashy nails. The blouse says it all. Pretty, elegant, feminine and cool. Everyone needs at least one Tucker by Gaby Basora blouse in their closet. Each pattern is so different from the next. The Tucker blouse can be worn every which way. These colorful patterns would make an all black suit pop. Leave it tucked out and casual with a wide leg jean (Seven for All Mankind shown above). “The name Gaby Basora’s line came to her in a dream. Awake with the word Tucker on her mind, Basora looked up the word that had been spoken to her in her sleep. ’A piece of cloth draped about the neck and shoulders.’ Tucker. The perfect name for the collection of draped silk blouses Basora was designing for herself to fill the void in her closet. That was back in 2005. A year later, those Tucker by Gaby Basora blouses were rapidly disappearing from the sales floor at Barneys New York. Now, five years on, Tucker by Gaby Basora encompasses a complete wardrobe of blouses, dresses, coats, jackets, leather and knits, is sold in more than 200 of the top stores worldwide, and class A-list fans such as Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler and Drew Barrymore. In 2010 Basora is added to an impressive roster of designers with her Tucker for Target collaboration. Yet Basora never lost her connection to the subliminal. Every signature print and every vintage-inspired silhouette she develops comes from her vision. ‘There’s a wistful feeling – like nostalgia, a yearning for something intimate and yet somehow inaccessible – that I try to conjure with these clothes,’ Basora says. Tucker is as easy to slip into as a reverie. The brand’s trademark ethereal silk sync tailored staples and cozy knits, adding up to a wardrobe of fresh clasics. Basora, a modern mother of three, puts a premium on wearability, designing mix-and-match closet hits with an idiosyncratic personality. asora comes by that idiosyncratic streak naturally, hailing from a family of art lovers and flea market scroungers from whom he learned to seize inspiration anywhere and everywhere. ‘I’m inspired-agnostic,’ notes Basora. ‘Marguerite Duras, a drawing by my son, the way the tree looks when I’m biking by it, the French schoolgirls I saw when I visited Paris… It all contributes, it all gets remixed in my head. Whether it’s a perfect-cut trench coat, or a pleated skirt printed with birds,’ she adds, ‘I want the clothes to feel mysteriously familiar, like a resurfacing memory you never want to forget.’” (text copied and quoted form Tucker’s trademarked website) Such an amazing story! Gaby Basora has such unique taste and style. As mentioned above her inspirations come from everywhere. How a tree blows, her kids artwork – it makes her patterns that much more special. She inspires me on a creative level with her patterns to always think outside the box. So many of our customers stalk this line for many reasons. I say ‘stalk’ in a good way. The style of the blouse may stay the same but the pattern is what seals the deal and keeps us looking for more – addicted! willowst.com will sell out of a specific print the same day so always keeps your eyes peeled in ‘Just In‘. I would hate for you to miss the boat When I think of Tucker I think of this quote by Marilyn Monroe “I’m very definitely a woman and I enjoy it.” |
