We here at Willow St. all look to Lezli (aka ”the big b”) to find out what trends are coming for each new season, what styles look best on us and really everything about how to dress.  She is the first one in the store to embrace the new trends every season, and to show us all how to wear them. That being said, we thought who better to help us do our first installment of  Willow St. do’s and don’ts than the boss lady herself.

Here we have our list of top do’s and don’ts to guide you from the dog days of summer into all the fabulous fashions of fall!

  • Do add some color to your wardrobe | add some colored pants or jeans this season. This trend is everywhere and can be worn in a skinny style or in a wide leg so it will work for many body types

  •  Do get your fur on | we love the shearling trend and the way to get the look this season is with a sherpa style vest.  Faux or real, this look is easy and can double as inner and outer wear.
  • Do get a little matchy matchy | we know this is going to be hard but try pairing your colored jeans with a matching print on top or a great argyle sweater and embrace a bit of preppy for fall.
  • Do transition some of your faves | make your summer favorites last into the fall. Try wearing summer’s maxi skirts with one of this seasons chunky open weave sweaters and a pair of flat boots or booties.
  • Do rock a poncho | this season ponchos are making a come back so why not embrace a bit of this mexican or navajo inspired trend. Try it with your skinny jeans to keep it modern.

  • Don’t be afraid of color | fall is all about color so don’t be afraid to experiment with all the berry and grape shades that the season has to offer
  • Don’t down size an over sized top or sweater, the look is supposed to be baggy so go for it!
  • Don’t over do chunky jewelry | with the advent of the big jewelry trend this season, it is easy to get carried away. Rule of thumb is stick with one large peice ie a necklace or a bracelet and add some small accents around it.
  • Don’t stick to one style | with so many different looks to choose from (preppy, bohemian, 70′s chic) step outside of your fashion box and try on all the styles that this season has to offer.
  • Don’t be afraid of prints | prints are everywhere this season from printed tops with colored jeans to missoni inspired knits from Willow St. favorite Mike Gonzalez. Why not be on trend and add a few.

Yup, that’s my bed in the above photo.  It looks like a disaster but it’s all coming together nicely (that’s my alter ego speaking).

Let the countdown begin!  Trying to pack light while still looking in style for a European vacation is no easy feat!

S’il vous plaît, Merci, Comment ça va? – I’m trying to learn the French basics with very little time left.  I’m also trying to be very organized about what’s going into that suitcase – seems ohhhh so small.  I made a little check list of the ‘Musts’ – But isn’t everything a must?

1. Deva hair products – You can’t have bad frizzy hair on vacation.

2. Small stack of white tanks and tees – A white tank or Michael Stars tee is always a staple in my closet and in my suitcase.  Great for layering and it can always be worn by itself in an emergency situation.

3. A good book – I’m currently reading “Fall of Giants” by Ken Follett – So amazing

4. Comfortable pair of wedges/booties – You want to be out and about on vacation looking stylish, but you have to comfortable at the same time.

5. A neutral blazer and basic micro flare jeans – A blazer will take your outfit up a notch in all instances.  They are sophisticated and very happening.  Psssstttttt a little secret – micro flare jeans are quietly making their way in to the fashion market.

6.  Accessories, scarves and belts – A chunky Lionette necklace, a Chan Luu wrap bracelet and a Theodora and Callum scarf will take you a long way.  Go with a Kristin Kahle Firenze Reversible Belt, black to brown.

7.  iPad – Need I say more.  I’m addicted to my Twitter and Facebook page!

8. Running shoes – Have to burn off the vino and cheese somehow!

9. A little black dress – Easy transitional piece from day to night.

10. Sexy PJ’s -  What happens in France stays in France!

ONLY if I have some room left does my wish list come into play – Louboutins, my cat Carmel and maybe my Keurig.

à la vôtre!
