Launched in 2010 by lifelong fashion lover Ramy Sharp, Ramy Brook was started to help bring the Chatham, New Jersey native’s sophisticated idea of sexy to women of all ages. “My sensibility always went to sexy first, in a way that highlights the natural inner and outer beauty of a woman” said Sharp in a recent interview with fashionwindows.net. She describes her own personal style in three words: sexy, sophisticated and simple.

Part of what helps this collection achieve this sexy, sophisticated and simple feel is its mix of luxury fabrics like silk charmeuse, jersey knits as well as silk crepe and chiffon. The collection also mixes cool neutrals with fun fashion brights so the look can be tailored to women of all types.  In particular, we at Willow St. love the drapey feel and the sexy disco look of the Harriet and VR2 tops for a Saturday night.  Effortlessly paired with denim and a platform wedge sandal or a pair of harem pants from the same line, these looks are timeless and chic. Easily transitioned into a fall wardrobe as well with a blazer or cardigan, these sexy summer tops do not need to be retired in September, another reason why this is one of our favorite new lines. Easy to wear sparkles that at once capture Ramy Brook’s idea of the sexy woman without being overtly so.

Celebrities like Molly Sims have already snatched up pieces from the collection and more famous ladies are sure to follow.

Tucker by Gaby Basora

The blouse says it all.  Pretty, elegant, feminine and cool. Everyone needs at least one Tucker by Gaby Basora blouse in their closet.  Each pattern is so different from the next.  The Tucker blouse can be worn every which way.  These colorful patterns would make an all black suit pop.  Leave it tucked out and casual with a wide leg jean (Seven for All Mankind shown above).

“The name Gaby Basora’s line came to her in a dream.  Awake with the word Tucker on her mind, Basora looked up the word that had been spoken to her in her sleep.  ’A piece of cloth draped about the neck and shoulders.’ Tucker.  The perfect name for the collection of draped silk blouses Basora was designing for herself to fill the void in her closet.

That was back in 2005.  A year later, those Tucker by Gaby Basora blouses were rapidly disappearing from the sales floor at Barneys New York.  Now, five years on, Tucker by Gaby Basora encompasses a complete wardrobe of blouses, dresses, coats, jackets, leather and knits, is sold in more than 200 of the top stores worldwide, and class A-list fans such as Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler and Drew Barrymore.  In 2010 Basora is added to an impressive roster of designers with her Tucker for Target collaboration.  Yet Basora never lost her connection to the subliminal.  Every signature print and every vintage-inspired silhouette she develops comes from her vision.

‘There’s a wistful feeling – like nostalgia, a yearning for something intimate and yet somehow inaccessible – that I try to conjure with these clothes,’ Basora says.

Tucker is as easy to slip into as a reverie.  The brand’s trademark ethereal silk sync tailored staples and cozy knits, adding up to a wardrobe of fresh clasics.  Basora, a modern mother of three, puts a premium on wearability, designing mix-and-match closet hits with an idiosyncratic personality.  asora comes by that idiosyncratic streak naturally, hailing from a family of art lovers and flea market scroungers from whom he learned to seize inspiration anywhere and everywhere.

‘I’m inspired-agnostic,’ notes Basora. ‘Marguerite Duras, a drawing by my son, the way the tree looks when I’m biking by it, the French schoolgirls I saw when I visited Paris… It all contributes, it all gets remixed in my head.  Whether it’s a perfect-cut trench coat, or a pleated skirt printed with birds,’ she adds, ‘I want the clothes to feel mysteriously familiar, like a resurfacing memory you never want to forget.’” (text copied and quoted form Tucker’s trademarked website)

Such an amazing story!  Gaby Basora has such unique taste and style.  As mentioned above her inspirations come from everywhere.  How a tree blows, her kids artwork – it makes her patterns that much more special.  She inspires me on a creative level with her patterns to always think outside the box.  So many of our customers stalk this line for many reasons.  I say ‘stalk’ in a good way.  The style of the blouse may stay the same but the pattern is what seals the deal and keeps us looking for more – addicted!  willowst.com will sell out of a specific print the same day so always keeps your eyes peeled in ‘Just In‘.  I would hate for you to miss the boat :)

When I think of Tucker I think of this quote by Marilyn Monroe “I’m very definitely a woman and I enjoy it.”

How To Wear The Cardi

1 cardi 3 looks.

1. A flirty dress with a belt that sits higher on the waist and a classic pump or boot.  2. Fitted tank, chunky necklace and a cargo pant tucked into boots.  3. Tuck a blouse into your shorts, belt it with tights and a riding boot.

‘Build on the Look’:

1. Chan Luu wraps are key with any outfit.  2. We love Big Buddha.  3. CC Skye jewelry is femme rocker.

Stand by for more ‘Tips’ from the Owner and Buyer, Lezli.  The tip from Lezli for the cardi – “An open cardigan is a great substitute for a blazer.  Wear it open with layered necklaces or cinch it up with a funky high waisted belt.  When you’re in a pinch ‘the cardi’ is a fun way to finish the look.”

Fashion me green.

Do you know the meaning of green? With both a warming and cooling effect, the color green denotes balance, harmony, and stability. Green contains the powerful energies of nature, growth, desire to expand or increase.  Grass green is the most restful color.

willowst.com’s favorite green tee is the Danny Slub Tee by Velvet.  We also love, the oh so very popular, Green Houlihan Cargo from J Brand.  Need a sweater?  The Charlotte Tarantola Safari Sweater is the perfect transitional piece for the season.

All that made me hungry.  Perfect Fall recipe.  Bon Appétit!  http://tinyurl.com/msnk9e

Ingredients for Asparagus Soup:
3 pounds fresh asparagus, rinsed
8 cups chicken stock
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup minced shallots
1 cup minced leeks, whites only, well rinsed
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan, garnish

Directions:
Trim the attractive top tips from the asparagus, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in length. Cut the woody stem ends from each spear and reserve. Cut the remaining tender stalks into 1/2-inch pieces.

In a medium pot, bring the stock to a boil. Add the tough woody stems, lower the heat and simmer to infuse with asparagus flavor, 20 to 30 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and discard, reserving the stock.

Add the decorative tips to the stock and blanch until tender, 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Remove with a strainer and refresh in an ice water bath. Drain on paper towels and reserve for the garnish. Reserve the stock.

In a medium stockpot, melt the butter over medium-high heat. When foamy, add the shallots and leeks and cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the chopped asparagus stalks, salt, and pepper, and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add the reserved broth and simmer until the asparagus are very tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the heat.

With a hand-immersion blender or in batches in a food processor, puree the soup until smooth. Adjust the seasoning, to taste. If serving right away, return to medium heat and add the cream and reserved asparagus tips. Cook, stirring, until the soup is warmed through, about 3 minutes.

Alternatively, if serving the soup later, do not add the cream and let cool at room temperature (or in an ice water bath). Cover and refrigerate. Before serving, add the cream and asparagus tips, and warm the soup gently over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

To serve, place the soup in a soup tureen and sprinkle with cheese. Ladle into demi-tasse cups or small coffee or tea cups, and serve.

Be Safarian.  Be Green.  Be Lacey Racey.

We can’t even get this Miss Ferriday top out on the racks – its selling so fast.

Hangin out in our Denim Room, Al pairs it well with her bathing suit and Bre rocks the top with her white, wide leg, J Brand jean.

Lezli sure does have her finger on the fashion pulse!  She quotes “lace and safari green are two trends for fall that everyone needs to embrace.  Feminine and utilitarian styles mesh well together to create a current look”.

Chic behind the scene.  Even though Alyson hides out in our back room, she is a huge piece to our puzzle at Willow St. She manages all of our inventory.  You know how we always tell our customers “we get new boxes in everyday of new things”, well that’s all thanks to her.  She has been with Willow St. for 3 years now and counting.

“I would consider myself Hippie Chic.  Comfy, cool but I always bring that funky edge.”

Some things our customers may not know about Al are…

Her favorite shoe designer is Manolo Blahnik;  Her favorite fashion magazine is People Style Watch;  Favorite Essie color – Wicked;  Loves veggie bean burritos;  Can always go for dinner at NYC’s Bloosom (vegan) restaurant!  Loves a good wedge with her skinny jeans.  Al’s not an iPhone gal, she’s a fan of the Blackberry.  ”Hit me up on B.B.M.”  Al’s petite just like her salt and pepper Mini Cooper!

Al loves to get her workouts on in her Alternative Apparel gear.  ”I don’t like to use machines, bring on that underground training.”  ”Love a good 20 minute jump rope workout as long as Pearl Jam, Maxwell or Alicia Keys is on the iPod.”

Some sand and some waves + a Stoli tonic in hand = perfect summer!  Cheers!
