Sonya Renée jewelry was created in 2002 by Gina Renée & pal Desiree Sonya who combined their middle names to form the entity, Sonya Renée L.L.C. After seeing the jewelry worn by stars like Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in romantic movies, people had to follow in their footsteps. Women + Jewels = Sexy! The plunging necklines, form fitting dresses – showing off sexy curves, and lots and lots of sparkling bling bling motivates me to always step outside of the box.
Talking about being bold and making a statement, stepping outside of the box - brings me right into… who is ‘Thursday Friday’? They are turning the handbag industry inside out with their “anti spend all your money on a designer bag” trend. You can spend thousands of dollars on a Balenciaga bag OR spend $35 on this new, reusable tote with an image of the fabulous Balenciaga bag screen printed on it! Being a frugal fashionista myself I know my bank account can’t fund a Hermes bag, but this little number sure comes close for a fraction of the price. Ooh Poo Pah Doo, A 3 MONTH WAITING LIST?!?! Who’s ready for LC’s (that’s me) retail therapy session? Shopping can be practical. It doesn’t always have to be justified with ‘I worked really hard this week’ or ‘I haven’t bought myself something in awhile’. As long as the rent is being paid, life is too short to be counting penny’s, especially when it comes to clothing and accessories. Being a young, single woman in my 20′s, my motto is how you look on the outside reflects how you feel on the inside (did I get that backwards?). Okay, so, maybe I do do a little justifying of purchases too, but that all comes with the territory of being a W.O.M.A.N. (Sing it Etta). Shopping is like making a cocktail. Mix one part ‘splurge’ with two parts ‘basics’. And, if you want to get tipsy (potentially dance on the bar) add in an extra shot of ‘accessories’. First order of business- Splurge: Toss that budget right out the window (in this case) and splurge. January 1st is right around the corner, start a clothing allowance, and make a new years resolution then. You don’t have to ‘make payments’ on splurging or feel like you just burned the biggest hole that your pocket has ever felt. I’ll meet you halfway, we won’t go cashmere and we won’t go faux, but let’s hit the mid and do something sequins. You don’t need ‘P Diddy’ money to splurge, it can just be something memorable, something out of the ordinary. My splurge this season was the smashing Parker Batwing Gold Sequins dress. You won’t see a duplicate like it anywhere else. It say’s ‘show stopper’ all over it. A piece like that is worth the extra dinero in my ‘check’ book. *Wink* Second on the ‘don’t feel’ naughty list-Basics: Get all your basics and practical articles covered before each season. Get yourself some basic tees, vees and a couple pairs of everyday denim. You can never go wrong with Michael Stars basic crew neck tees, so easy cause they’re one size fits all. I also love Splendid V-necks, I think the designers name says it all ‘Splendiddd’. By the way, the fabric content says ‘made with 100% body butter. I also get a fresh pair of Citizen’s of Humanity Kelly bootcut jeans in a light and dark wash. Next to my PJ’s, the Kelly’s from COH are my go to pant. Don’t ever let money and shopping get you stressed. Let’s face the facts you can’t have peanut butter without the jelly. You need the green to shop. It is what it is. You gotta have basics and a girl needs to splurge.
